The West End High School Alumni Scholarship is now The Julie Weiland Waters West High Alumni Scholarship, named in memory of Julie, who was instrumental in founding the Alumni Association. It  is funded by bequests and donations.  The first award was a $1000 scholarship for the 2019-2020 school year and was awarded to Natalie Taylor Bergan, a student at Northeastern University in Boston, and the granddaughter of Betty Jane Maples Taylor, Class of '56, and Larry Taylor.

In 2020,  a second scholarship which will be awarded by Ronnie Osborne, Class of 62, called the Fab 4 Scholarship was given.  The purpose of this scholarship is to fund a scholarship for a direct descendant of a West High athlete or cheerleader.  This year, Ronnie has made $1,000 available to any direct descendant of a West High alumnus, and the athlete or cheerleader alumnus scholarship will be awarded beginning in 2021.

In 2020, the two scholarships for 2020-2021 have been awarded to Elizabeth Joy Lewis, a Senior at Summit High School, Spring Hill, TN and granddaughter of George Lewis, Class of 1960, and Karlee Caldwell, a Senior at Jefferson High School, Jefferson, GA, and granddaughter of Bobby Caldwell, Class of 1951.  We congratulate both of these deserving students

There have been several donations to the Scholarship in memory of West End High School alumni including Buddy Francis (56), Tommy McAdams (56) Jerry Averbuch (56), John "Butch" Stephens (55), Wyatt Allen (56), in memory of Hailey Turner, granddaughter of alumnus Fred Turner (53).  Also, a contribution has been received from David Ogden (62). John Wade (54) has sent a contribution in memory of Julie Weiland Waters (60).

A generous bequest from the estate of Phil Harris, West High Class of 1963, has been invested in a Vanguard Fund and will be used for the  Julie Weiland Waters  West High Alumni Scholarship Fund.  An additional bequest to the Scholarship Fund from the estate of Ralph G. Pilsk, Class of 1961 has also been invested in the Vanguard Fund. The Scholarship fund will continue to be funded through donations made to WEHSAA, earmarked "Alumni Scholarship Fund", and sent to the above address.  If you wish to donate through Pay Pal, please use the "Donate" button on the Home Page.  All donations are tax-deductible.
